JASPER COUNTY, TX — A Jasper County fugitive is back in local custody following his capture and extradition from North Carolina, according to Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard.
On January 27, 2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Transport Deputy Matt Hopson and Officer Joshua Primrose arrived back in Jasper County with Jacob James, who had been detained in Graham County, North Carolina.
James was apprehended on January 15, 2026, after the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a tip regarding his whereabouts. He remained incarcerated in the Graham County Jail until being transported back to Jasper County.
James was wanted out of Jasper County on the following charges:
Motion to Revoke Probation – Felony (Burglary of a Habitation)
Tampering with an Electronic Monitoring Device – Felony
He is now back in the custody of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and will face his charges in Jasper County.

Sheriff Chuck Havard commended Deputy Hopson and Officer Primrose for their efforts, noting the extensive travel involved in returning the fugitive to Texas.
“I want to commend our two officers for their hard work and long travel hours over the last couple of days,” Havard said. “We will go wherever we need to when one of our fugitives is apprehended.”
As with all criminal cases, James is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
