Freshly painted motorcycle tips deputy off-it was stolen out of Orange County

On Thursday, April 10, 2025, while on patrol in the Trout Creek area, Deputy Shaunna Phippen conducted a traffic stop on a blue motorcycle. Upon making contact with the operator, Deputy Phippen observed that the motorcycle appeared to have been freshly painted. Deputy Phippen conducted a further investigation and discovered that the motorcycle had been reported stolen out of Orange County.

As a result of her thoroughness and attention to detail, Deputy Phippen placed Dakota Paul McCaughn under arrest and transported him to the Newton County Jail, where he was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

Sheriff Havard would like to commend Deputy Phippen for her outstanding work and dedication to keeping our community safe.
