Trinity County – A former Trinity County Sheriff’s Office employee pled guilty Tuesday to Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, a first-degree felony, and has been sentenced to 30 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, according to Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace.

The defendant, previously employed as an animal control officer, was arrested on July 1, 2025, following an investigation by TCSO. Sheriff Wallace confirmed the offense occurred while the individual was working for the department.

In a statement, Sheriff Wallace said the former employee’s actions represented “a grave betrayal of the trust placed in him by this office, the citizens of Trinity County, his family, and most of all his young victim.”

The plea agreement, Wallace noted, was made in consultation with the victim’s family to prevent the child from having to testify in open court.

The case was prosecuted by Trinity County District Attorney Bennie Schiro, with proceedings overseen by Judge John Wells III of the 411th District Court.

Case Summary

Defendant: Brandon Daniel Furman, 53

Charge: Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child (1st Degree Felony)

Arrest Date: July 1, 2025

Sentence: 30 years TDCJ

Sheriff Wallace emphasized that the Sheriff’s Office “stands with the victim and family and remains committed to pursuing justice for the most vulnerable among us.”
