First Jasper County Peace Officer Academy in 20+ Years to Graduate October 2nd

JASPER COUNTY, Texas — For the first time in more than two decades, Jasper County will celebrate the graduation of a Peace Officer Academy.

On Thursday, October 2, 2025, Cadet Class 119 will walk the stage at 7 p.m. inside the Jasper High School Auditorium, marking the completion of a months-long training program that has prepared them to become licensed Texas Peace Officers. The event is open to the public and media.

This academy was launched in 2024 through a partnership with the Angelina College Law Enforcement Academy and the Deep East Texas College & Career Academy (DETCCA). Planning sessions were held at the Jasper County Annex, where local leaders and law enforcement officials laid the groundwork to bring the program home after a 20-year absence.

Judge Mark Allen said the benefits of this class will reach beyond Jasper County.

“Jasper County and our surrounding jurisdictions will benefit from this graduating class,” Allen said. “Several jurisdictions throughout Southeast and Deep East Texas are experiencing personnel shortages, and upon graduation, these cadets will help fill those vacancies. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office plans to hire several directly out of the academy. Additionally, we have at least two Jasper County employees in other career fields who are graduating the academy, and they will stand ready to assist as Peace Officers in their community when called upon.”

Allen also credited Sheriff Chuck Havard, Sergeant Doug Conn, the Angelina College Law Enforcement Academy, and the Deep East Texas College & Career Academy for bringing the program to life. He noted that instructors shared their knowledge and experience to help cadets succeed on the state exam and step into their new roles with confidence.

The cadets of Class 119 have completed extensive classroom instruction and practical training, culminating in passing the state licensing exam through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Their graduation opens the door to careers as certified peace officers across the region.

“This is the first Peace Officer Academy class to be held in Jasper County in more than 20 years,” Allen said. “With the outpouring of support and strong applicant interest, we can clearly see the need for future academies and career development training in our region.”

For now, the spotlight will shine on the graduates of Class 119, as their families, instructors, and community members gather to celebrate their achievement on October 2, 2025.
