The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Danger Statement for Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Newton, Orange, and Tyler counties due to elevated wildfire risk.
The statement is in effect Saturday morning through Saturday evening, as dry conditions combine with weather factors that could allow fires to ignite easily and spread rapidly.
What Residents Should Know
According to the National Weather Service:
Winds: North around 10 mph
Relative Humidity: As low as 20–30%
Fuel Conditions: Ongoing moderate drought has left grasses and other small fuels extremely dry, particularly marsh grasses, which are highly flammable
These conditions increase the risk of fast-moving and unpredictable wildfires, especially if a fire starts accidentally.
Safety Precautions Urged
Officials are asking residents to take extra precautions, including:
Avoid outdoor activities that could spark a fire
Do not park vehicles on dry grass
Avoid welding or grinding near dry vegetation
Never discard cigarette butts on the ground
See Smoke or Fire?
Anyone who sees smoke or a fire is urged to report it immediately to their local fire department or law enforcement agency.
Officials emphasize that preventing accidental ignitions is critical during these conditions to protect lives, property, and natural resources.
