A coordinated effort between local and federal authorities led to the arrest of a wanted fugitive Thursday morning in Newton County.
According to Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard, deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the United States Marshals Service, and Newton Police Department executed a felony warrant in the 2100 block of County Road 2110 in Burkeville just after 7:26 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
The suspect, identified as Casey Edward Baker, was wanted out of both Angelina and Walker Counties on multiple felony charges, including Failure to Appear on Aggravated Assault – Family Violence and Indecency with a Child.
Investigators say Baker had been reported missing out of Walker County and was believed to be using alias names in an attempt to hide his identity and avoid capture.
When authorities arrived at the Burkeville residence, Baker refused to open the door. Forced entry was made, and he was taken into custody without further incident. Baker was then transported to the Newton County Jail.
Sheriff Colton Havard praised the coordinated effort, stating the arrest was the result of strong collaboration between agencies.
