Silsbee, TX — The man accused of stealing a Mustang at gunpoint from Silsbee Ford in June is now facing federal charges, according to a press release issued Wednesday by Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

Justin Keith Colley, 37, of Village Mills, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on three charges:

  • Carjacking

  • Brandishing a firearm during a violent crime

  • Being a felon in possession of a firearm

The federal indictment stems from the June 20, 2025 incident, which East Texas Banner previously reported. Authorities say Colley pulled a gun on a car salesman just after 2 p.m. and drove off in a Ford Mustang.

Roughly an hour later, Jasper County Deputy Jacob Spivey spotted the stolen car on Highway 96 near County Road 729, south of Buna. After verifying that the plates didn’t match, Spivey called for backup and executed a felony stop, taking Colley into custody without incident.

“Because of Deputy Spivey’s vigilance while on patrol this afternoon, this violent criminal will be off the streets of Southeast Texas and Jasper County,” said Sheriff Chuck Havard following the arrest in June.

Colley was initially charged with Aggravated Robbery in Hardin County, with additional charges pending in Jasper County. Now, those charges have escalated to the federal level.

If convicted, Colley faces up to life in federal prison.

The case is being prosecuted under Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative focused on violent crime, drug trafficking, and transnational criminal organizations. It also falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which targets gun violence in local communities.

The investigation is being led by the ATF, Silsbee Police Department, and Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Reynaldo P. Morin.
