Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on College Drive Claims Life of Pollok Man

LUFKIN, Texas — One person was killed and multiple others were injured following a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning on a busy stretch of College Drive in Lufkin, according to the Lufkin Police Department.
Police were called to the scene around 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, after a collision occurred on College Drive near the entrance to Texas Bible College, an area that serves as a major connector between residential neighborhoods and commercial businesses.

Victim Identified
Authorities identified the deceased driver as 26-year-old Demarcus Hadnot of Pollok, who was driving a Kia westbound on College Drive. Hadnot was pronounced dead at the scene.
A dog that was inside Hadnot’s vehicle also died as a result of the crash.
Additional Injuries
Hadnot’s passenger, 24-year-old Paige Turner, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Tyler for treatment.
The driver of the Mercedes, 65-year-old George Fidone of Lufkin, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Fidone is a pediatric provider who practices locally, including at The Children’s Clinic of Jasper and The Children’s Clinic of Lufkin, where he is one of several pediatricians serving the area.
Ongoing Investigation
At this time, no charges have been announced, and the crash remains under investigation by Lufkin Police. Officials have not released additional details regarding fault, speed, or contributing factors.
Police are expected to provide updates as the investigation continues.
