East Texas Sixth-Grade Student Dies Following Four-Wheeler Accident

The East Texas community is mourning the loss of Easton Mac Roper, an 11-year-old sixth-grade student in Troup Independent School District, who passed away following a four-wheeler accident late last week.

According to information released by the district and Easton’s family, the accident occurred Friday night, January 30, 2026. Family members said Easton passed away that night as a result of the incident.

In a statement to families and staff, Troup ISD described the loss as “heartbreaking for our school community” and extended condolences to Easton’s family and loved ones during what officials described as an incredibly difficult time.

To support students and staff affected by the loss, the district made counselors and support team members available on campus beginning Monday, February 3. Families were encouraged to speak with their children and to reach out to the school if additional support is needed.

Relatives described Easton as “the sweetest kid,” remembering his kind spirit and the positive impact he had on those around him.

A funeral service for Easton Mac Roper, age 11, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Mixon, with Bro. Preston Lindsey and Bro. Joe Ballard officiating. He will be laid to rest at Mixon Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

For those wishing to offer support to the family, donations may be made through Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville or directly at Troup Middle School.

District officials asked the community to continue supporting one another with compassion and to respect the family’s privacy as they grieve.
