At The East Texas Banner, we love celebrating the people and families who make our communities special — the moments that remind us what it means to call East Texas home.
Our recent Community Spotlight: ETB Outdoors feature on 12-year-old Karvyn Day of Kirbyville, who harvested his first buck while hunting in Roganville with his dad, struck a chord with readers. The response from our followers was incredible — hundreds of reactions, shares, and comments congratulating Karvyn and his family on their proud moment.

That’s exactly what ETB is all about: uplifting the good happening right here in our backyard.
Now, we want to share your moments, too.
What We’re Looking For
We’re building a series of Community Spotlight stories featuring local residents, families, and youth accomplishments — everything from:
Hunting and fishing milestones
School and sports achievements
Acts of kindness and community service
Local business success stories
Family traditions and outdoor adventures
If it’s something you’re proud of — we want to help you share it with East Texas.
How to Submit
It’s simple! Send us:
A photo (clear, family-appropriate, and high-resolution if possible)
A short description — who’s in the photo, what’s happening, and why it’s special
The name, age, and hometown of anyone featured (if you’re comfortable sharing)
You can message us directly through the East Texas Banner Facebook page or email your submission to news@easttexasbanner.com with “Community Spotlight” in the subject line.
Why It Matters
In a world full of bad news, these stories remind us that there’s still so much good in our small towns — hard work, family, faith, and tradition. Every photo and story shared helps us show the heart of Jasper, Newton, and Tyler counties.
So whether it’s your kid’s first deer, your neighbor’s 50th anniversary, or a moment that made you proud of your hometown — send it our way.
We’ll keep the spotlight shining on what matters most: our people.
The East Texas Banner — Local Stories. Local People. Real Pride.
