East Texas Banner Announces Teacher Spotlight Winners for Jasper & Newton Counties

The East Texas Banner is proud to announce the winners of the East Texas Teacher Spotlight Giveaway, an initiative created to celebrate exceptional educators across our region.

Community members were invited to nominate teachers who go above and beyond in Jasper, Newton, and Tyler Counties. While no Tyler County submissions were received this round, the heartfelt nominations from Jasper and Newton Counties showcased the incredible dedication of local educators.

Each winner will receive a $25 gift certificate to El Charrito Mexican Restaurant in Jasper, courtesy of the East Texas Banner.

⭐ Jasper County Winner

Mrs. Stephanie Folmar — Evadale Elementary School

Mrs. Folmar’s nomination stood out for its depth, compassion, and real-world impact. She was recognized not only for her positivity and dedication in the classroom, but for the care she extends to her students and their families during difficult moments.

From supporting children through family loss to stepping in with small acts of kindness—like fixing hair, encouraging struggling students, and offering daily emotional support—Mrs. Folmar has proven herself to be a steady source of joy and comfort for her students.

Her actions demonstrate the heart of an educator who makes a lasting difference both inside and outside the classroom.

⭐ Newton County Winner

Mrs. Christy Haymon — Newton Middle School (8th Grade History)

With 18 years of service to the Newton community, Mrs. Haymon’s nomination highlighted her exceptional commitment to education. Known for her creative lessons, patience, and passion for history, she consistently engages her students and helps them achieve outstanding academic success.

Her classes have held some of the highest passing scores in the region for years, and her leadership extends beyond her own classroom—she mentors other teachers, shares resources, and helps raise the bar for education district-wide.

A four-time Teacher of the Year recipient, Mrs. Haymon’s dedication and daily impact reflect the very best of Newton County’s educators.
