JASPER, Texas — Multiple volunteer fire departments responded early Thursday morning after a structure fire broke out on Mays Street within the Jasper city limits.
The call came in at 5:28 a.m., prompting the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department to request mutual aid from East End VFD and Beech Grove VFD for additional support.
When crews arrived, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions inside an older, single-story, wood-framed home. East End VFD reported that the structure was already well-involved when units arrived and began suppression efforts.
Beech Grove VFD responded with Engine 11 and four firefighters, joining East End and Jasper crews in a coordinated attack. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about one hour.
No injuries were reported among firefighters or civilians. According to initial information from the responding departments, the residence appeared to be vacant and unoccupied at the time of the fire.
Officials have not yet released a cause. The fire remains under routine investigation.
