MOUNT UNION, Texas — A Vidor man was taken to the hospital Sunday evening after a one-vehicle crash on FM 1013 near FM 1005 in the Mount Union area, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety Southeast Texas Region.

Troopers say the crash occurred around 6:43 p.m. on October 5, 2025, when a 2011 Lincoln passenger car was traveling east on FM 1013. The driver, 63-year-old Samuel Tarver of Vidor, told investigators he swerved to avoid a cow that had wandered into the roadway.

The vehicle left the road, entered the north ditch, struck a culvert, and overturned.

Emergency crews were initially called out for the crash shortly after 7:30 p.m. Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, and Allegiance Mobile Health–Jasper EMS responded to the scene. Tarver was transported by Allegiance EMS to Jasper Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, DPS reported.

No other vehicles were involved, and no additional information has been released.
