Driver ejected in last night's collision on Neches River Bridge

Shortly after midnight last night, a single vehicle collision occurred on the Neches River Bridge in Evadale. The following is the DPS press release in its entirety.


The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating a crash on U.S. Highway 96 in Evadale, that occurred Wednesday, May 8, 2024.


The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 12:30 a.m., a 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 was traveling north and reportedly traveled off the road to the left, where it struck the guardrail and overturned multiple times, causing the driver to be ejected.


The driver, identified as 49-year-old Dana Kendrick of Buna, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.


Jasper County Information Deputy Karli Cherry said, (County Officials are searching for a possible second person) "We sent the emergency corps based on a call we received however we have no information confirming that there are any additional occupants. We are looking out of an abundance of caution but nothing confirming at this time".


There have been unconfirmed reports that the woman who was taken to the hospital has died, however DPS Media Sergeant Shana Clark said, "I haven't been notified of that and I spoke to the Sergeant over the case about an hour ago. They will notify me on any changes. Should this change I will be certain to send an update".
