JASPER COUNTY, Texas — DNA evidence has led to the resolution of two previously stagnant burglary cases in the Buna area, according to Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office initially took reports for two separate Burglary of a Habitation cases in February 2024. At the time, evidence was collected and submitted for forensic analysis, but no immediate leads were developed.
In 2025, Investigator Karli Cherry revisited the cases and identified multiple similarities, leading investigators to believe both burglaries were committed by the same suspect. Follow-up work on the submitted evidence resulted in a significant breakthrough.
In September 2025, DNA testing produced a hit in both cases, confirming that the same individual was responsible. Authorities determined the suspect was already incarcerated in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for other burglaries out of Jasper County.
With assistance from the Texas Rangers, a search warrant was executed, and on January 6, 2026, investigators received confirmation identifying Malcom Lynn Fuselier Jr. as the suspect in both Buna burglaries.
Investigator Cherry presented probable cause affidavits, and County Judge Mark Allen subsequently issued warrants charging Fuselier Jr. with two counts of Burglary of a Habitation, both second-degree felonies.
Detainers have been placed on Fuselier Jr., and once he completes his current incarceration, he will be transported back to the Jasper County Jail to answer for the charges.
Sheriff Havard praised Investigator Cherry for her determination in resolving the cases.
“I would like to thank Investigator Cherry for her dedication and persistence on these cases,” Havard said. “We are committed to combating criminal activity and following up on any crime that occurs in our county.”
As with all criminal cases, Fuselier Jr. is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
