Deweyville ISD just made district history.
Five senior students — Austyn Addison, Emily Meyers, Braley Revere, Madison Clasby, and Rylee Moody — have been accepted as the first-ever Clinical Nursing cohort at Deweyville High School. Through a partnership with Lamar State College Orange (LSCO), the students will graduate in May 2026 with their Medical Assisting Certification, an industry-recognized credential typically earned after high school.

This week, the students visited LSCO to receive their college student IDs, scrubs, and official program patches. Their clinical rotations begin next week in professional medical environments — giving them hands-on experience long before most students step into their first college course.

“This program gives our students a head start in the healthcare field and a real advantage after graduation,” said DHS Nursing Instructor Mrs. Brandy Bickham, who is leading the program.
The partnership between Deweyville ISD and Lamar State College Orange reflects a growing effort to introduce students to career-focused pathways and workforce certifications.
“These girls are pioneers,” Bickham added. “They’re opening the door for every student who comes after them.”
For Deweyville students, the future of healthcare isn’t someday —
It’s right now.
