JASPER COUNTY — Jasper County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped a burglary in progress Monday morning after responding to a call at a Buna business on Business 96.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 10:00 a.m. on December 1, 2025, a deputy was dispatched to Stimit’s Feed Store located at 181 Business 96 in reference to a possible break-in. When the deputy arrived, the property owner reported hearing someone inside the building and pointed out a white truck outside that did not belong to him.

Deputies used the patrol vehicle’s PA system to call out to the individual inside. A man—identified as Christopher Hand, 35, of Buna—exited the building moments later.

During the investigation, deputies found tools and additional property both inside and outside the structure that appeared to have been staged to be removed, officials said.

Hand was taken into custody and transported to the Jasper County Jail. He is charged with Burglary of a Building, a State Jail Felony.

All individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Sheriff Chuck Havard emphasized that he and his staff remain committed to proactively addressing and preventing criminal activity throughout Jasper County.
