Deputies arrest man in Newton County carrying rifle and drugs

On the night of Friday, January 31, 2025, Newton County Sheriff’s Deputies were patrolling County Road 4101 when they stopped Eddie Mays, who was walking down the road with a rifle.

While the deputies were investigating this incident, they located suspected methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia items on Mays.

He was arrested and transported to the Newton County Jail, where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance and unlawful carrying of weapons with prior felony conviction.
