Dam B Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched around 10 a.m. Thursday to FM 256 after a skid steer with a mulching attachment caught fire.
Firefighters quickly contained the blaze before it could spread to surrounding trees or ground cover, preventing what could have been a much larger wildfire.
Fire Chief Marc Holcomb reminded residents and landowners to use caution when operating heavy equipment, mowers, or other machinery that can generate sparks — especially during dry conditions.
“Thankfully, this one didn’t get away from us,” Holcomb said. “It’s a good reminder for everyone to stay alert and work safely.”
The department thanked the community for their continued support, closing with a familiar message: Be safe and have a blessed day!
