Cypress Creek Wilderness Fire Grows to 1,143 Acres; Crews Continue Burnout Operations

ANGELINA NATIONAL FOREST, Texas — The Cypress Creek Wilderness Fire has grown to 1,143 acres, according to a Wednesday morning update (February 25, 2026 at 8:45 a.m.) from National Forests and Grasslands in Texas.
Infrared reconnaissance flights conducted overnight mapped the expanded fire perimeter.

Firefighters worked through the early morning hours implementing planned firing operations to strengthen containment lines and reduce available fuels inside the wilderness area.
Operations Update
Officials reported the following progress:
North end (302 Road Bed): Fired out and holding
East end (303 FSR): Fired out and holding
South end: Prepped and ready for burnout operations Wednesday
Today’s priority: Focus on the west side from A28 to A23
Additional firefighting resources are expected to arrive throughout the day and will be assigned as they check in.
Smoke may remain visible in surrounding communities as interior burnout operations continue.
Officials emphasized that the strategic firing operations are part of the operational plan to reinforce control lines and limit further spread.
Public and firefighter safety remain the top priority. Additional updates will be provided as conditions change.
