TYLER COUNTY — Quick action by local volunteer firefighters prevented a potentially dangerous situation from escalating Wednesday morning after a controlled burn got out of hand and ignited a non-residential structure on County Road 4400.
According to Dam‑B Volunteer Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 9 a.m. to reports of a structure fire that began as a control burn. Due to dry conditions, low humidity, and shifting winds, the fire spread rapidly before responders arrived.

Dam-B VFD responded with one pumper, two brush trucks, and a tanker, staffed by five volunteers. Mutual aid was also provided by Spurger Volunteer Fire Department.
Thanks to the quick response and coordinated efforts, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it spread. No additional structures or surrounding wooded areas were damaged.
Fire officials are urging residents to use extreme caution when burning over the next several days. With low humidity and stronger winds predicted, even controlled burns can quickly become dangerous.
Fire officials remind the public: If burning is not absolutely necessary, postpone it. Conditions can change rapidly and lead to emergency situations in minutes.
