City of Jasper Lineman Injured in Highway 96 Collision While Responding to Power Outage

JASPER COUNTY – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a serious two-vehicle collision that occurred Friday afternoon, August 22, 2025, on U.S. Highway 96 near County Road 237.
According to DPS, the crash occurred at approximately 2:43 p.m. when a northbound GMC Sierra hydroplaned and crossed into the southbound lane, colliding with a Ford F-series truck driven by 30-year-old Dalton Warner of Brookeland.
Warner, a lineman for the City of Jasper, was responding to a reported power outage at the time of the crash. He had to be extricated from the service truck by the Lake Rayburn Fire Department before being transported by Allegiance EMS to St. Luke’s Health with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the GMC, identified as 27-year-old Abigail Lewis of Jasper, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
In a statement released Friday evening, the City of Jasper asked the community to keep Warner and his family in their thoughts and prayers as he undergoes treatment.
DPS continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
