The City of Jasper Public Works Department recently hosted a 20-hour Wastewater Treatment course in partnership with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). The training, held last week in Jasper, was instructed by Susie Blake, an expert with TEEX’s Infrastructure and Safety division.

The course focused on the practical aspects of operating and maintaining wastewater treatment plants, emphasizing the importance of safety protocols and state regulatory compliance.

Topics included:

  • Composition and characteristics of wastewater

  • Secondary treatment processes

  • Disinfection of wastewater

  • Laboratory controls and procedures

Attendees included multiple City of Jasper employees as well as representatives from other local entities, reflecting a shared investment in maintaining high standards for public infrastructure and environmental safety.

TEEX, part of the Texas A&M University System, is a statewide leader in providing technical instruction to municipal employees across a range of essential services, including public works, water systems, emergency response, and infrastructure management.
