JASPER, Texas – Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital has joined an elite group of just 290 hospitals nationwide recognized with a coveted five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
The annual CMS rating system measures hospitals across patient experience, safety, and clinical outcomes. This is the first time Jasper Memorial has earned the top score, placing the community hospital alongside some of the best in the country.
Hospital President Cheri Willard, who took the helm in June, said the recognition reflects the dedication of staff and the hospital’s deep connection to the community.
“Even though we're small and we're rural, we're mighty,” Willard said.

She credited open communication and teamwork among associates as the driving force behind the achievement.
A celebration is planned at the hospital in September to honor the milestone.
While Jasper Memorial does not provide the wide range of specialty services found at larger tertiary care centers, Willard emphasized that patients can trust the hospital to deliver excellence in the care it does offer.
“The mission of Christus Jasper in general is to extend that healing ministry of Jesus Christ,” Willard said. “That’s really profound within our organization.”
For local families, the five-star designation is more than a number — it’s a reassurance that top-tier healthcare is not only accessible, but thriving right here at home in the Piney Woods.
