CHESTER, Texas — Chester ISD is making big strides in campus security this fall, rolling out new technology and infrastructure upgrades aimed at keeping students and staff safer than ever.
During the district’s fall break, every classroom was outfitted with a new Safety Panic Alert Button system — giving teachers the ability to connect directly with emergency services within seconds. The district also installed an updated intercom and public address system, ensuring that every room, hallway, and outdoor area can receive immediate alerts or instructions during an emergency.
The upgrades are funded through the Texas Education Agency’s Safety Grant, which has allowed Chester ISD to make several visible improvements across campus — including new fencing and gates with access control and a branded privacy screen between the high school building and the PE gym.
One of the most noticeable changes: the large digital clocks now hanging in the gym, hallways, and cafeteria. Beyond their clean modern look, these clocks also function as speakers and visual indicators for those who are hearing impaired, expanding accessibility as part of the district’s safety commitment.
District officials said additional safety and facility upgrades are still underway as remaining grant funds are used.
Chester ISD’s latest investments align with ongoing bond construction projects across the district, combining new facilities with enhanced security measures — a dual effort to support both growth and safety for the small but tight-knit Tyler County community.
