Car struck after second driver failed to yield the right of way

The Texas Department of Public Safety investigated a crash on state Highway 87, at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 363, that occurred Friday, March 8, 2024.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 3:45 p.m., a 2018 Dodge Charger was traveling south on S.H. 87, while a 2022 Kia Sorento was traveling west on F.M. 363. It is reported that the driver of the Dodge failed to yield to the Kia at the stop sign and struck it.

The driver of the Dodge, identified as 22-year-old Lakeria Gant of Coushatta, La., and one passenger, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Two other passengers were not injured.

The driver of the Kia, identified as 67-year-old Eugenia Wise of Kirbyville, and two passengers were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
