JASPER COUNTY, Texas — A Buna woman was cited for illegal dumping after Jasper County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated trash that had been dumped along a county roadway.
According to Sheriff Chuck Havard, on January 12, 2026, Deputy Harrell was notified of a piece of mail found among numerous trash bags that had been illegally dumped on County Road 826. The mail led deputies to identify Kayla Mabee, 38, of Buna, as the individual responsible.
Sheriff Havard stated that when deputies made contact with Mabee, she immediately confessed and apologized, explaining that she and her husband needed to dispose of the trash but found the dump closed at the time.
In lieu of an arrest, Mabee and her husband were required to clean up the dumped trash. Mabee was also issued a citation for Illegal Dumping, a Class C misdemeanor.
As with all cases, Mabee is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Sheriff Havard emphasized the Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to addressing illegal dumping throughout the county.
“I received numerous calls about this matter over the weekend, and I want to assure the people of Jasper County that when they call us, we will do everything we can to locate individuals who are littering and dumping trash on our property,” Havard said. “A citation was warranted in this case; however, individuals can be placed in jail if caught dumping illegally.”
Sheriff Havard also reminded residents that multiple county dump sites are available throughout Jasper County and encouraged citizens to use those locations for proper trash disposal.
He additionally thanked Commissioner Dennis Marks and his staff for their assistance during the investigation.
