Buna man arrested after allegedly stealing electricity

BUNA, TX-
The Jasper-Newton Electric Co-op contacted the Jasper County Sheriff's Office on June 18th of this year regarding two of their electrical meters being tampered with and power being stolen.
During the investigation it was discovered that 39-year-old Christopher Stimits of Buna had removed the JNEC meter from his property and installed another meter, giving the residence electricity without being charged for it.
Investigators also discovered that Stimits did the same thing at a former girlfriend’s residence. A total of $1497.36 was stolen from JNEC in the process. A warrant was issued for Stimits and he was arrested on Tuesday July 1st and charged with Theft of Service >=$750<$2500, Class A Misdemeanor. A bond has been set in the amount of $5,000.
As always, those arrested are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
