BUNA, Texas — Buna Independent School District confirmed Tuesday that a student at Buna Elementary left school grounds without authorization and was later returned to campus safely.
The district released a statement acknowledging the incident and said, “The student has returned to campus without further incident.” Officials added that federal privacy law prevents them from releasing additional details.
“Please understand that while the district would like to share more specific information regarding this student and the situation, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) prohibits us from doing so,” the statement read.
Parents and community members raised concerns on social media after reports circulated that the child, believed to be around eight years old, had been seen walking along Main Street in Buna before being returned to the school.
The district concluded its statement by thanking the community for their concern.
