Beech Grove VFD Teams Up With Jasper County Sheriff’s Office & Local Partners to Support New Humane Services Clinic

Who’s hungry for some fried fish and shrimp this December?

Because Beech Grove VFD is more than ready.

The Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department has partnered with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office – TX, Sheriff Chuck Havard, and Beech Grove Baptist Church to help raise funds for the opening of The Kahla Memorial Humane Services Clinic, a new project by Loving Hearts Animal Society right in Beech Grove.

The clinic is being established in loving memory of Dr. John W. Kahla, DVM, a legendary and deeply respected Jasper County veterinarian. In honor of his legacy, Mrs. Lee Kahla and the entire Kahla family have generously donated the use of the former Beech Grove Veterinary Clinic, along with remaining furnishings, to Loving Hearts Animal Society. Their gift directly supports the organization’s mission to reduce unwanted pet pregnancies and decrease the number of homeless animals entering shelters — continuing the compassionate work Dr. Kahla dedicated his life to.

Loving Hearts Animal Society is fully volunteer-run and operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Sheriff Chuck Havard emphasized the urgent need for this type of facility, noting its potential to significantly address Jasper County’s ongoing issues with stray and abandoned animals. With no county-owned shelter, the Sheriff’s Office is on the front lines of this challenge daily, and he believes the new clinic will have a tremendous and positive impact.

So—how can you help?

Easy. Everyone’s gotta eat.

Just head to the Beech Grove VFD station at 10230 FM 777 on Saturday, December 6th from 10 AM to 2 PM for some of the best fried seafood around.

Menu:

  • Fried Fish – $10

  • Fried Shrimp – $15

  • Combo Plate – $15

The best part?

All expenses for the event are already covered — which means 100% of the money raised goes directly to Loving Hearts Animal Society.

The goal is to have the clinic open and operational in early 2026, but reaching that milestone relies on strong community support.

So grab your friends, bring your appetite, and come meet Sheriff Havard, Beech Grove Baptist Church members, BGVFD firefighters, and the dedicated volunteers from Loving Hearts.

Hear firsthand about the critical work they’re doing for local animals who need it most.
