If you were in Kirbyville this evening, you would have witnessed a little excitement with the police department. A situation that in the beginning appeared to be something bad, turned out to be a misunderstanding. It's good to know that our officers are quick to respond when someone is in trouble.
It all began at around 4:15 Thursday evening, when a call for assistance went out from Kirbyville Police Officer, Ashley Arce. Within seconds, Officer Scotty Duncan and Chief of Police Paul Brister sped through town, lights and sirens blaring, going towards East Main St. to help her.
Arce explained that the department has been receiving calls regarding a specific vehicle being seen at locations that are believed to be meth houses. Arce said that she was watching for the vehicle, when suddenly she sees it, but she didn't expect the driver to be who it was.
Arce added, "I was at the City Barn on Smith Street talking to the city employees and I saw the blue Chrysler convertible come through and Gregory Hughey was driving it. I knew he didn’t have a driver license so I got in my patrol car and turned my lights on. He was a little ahead of me but I thought that he saw my lights and he turned off Smith and on to Main and he seemed to be going faster so, I thought he was running. That's when I told Officer Duncan and Chief Brister that I thought he was running. But thankfully he pulled over at the turn on Cr 556. Hughey was then issued a citation for Driving Without a Valid License and No Proof of Insurance."
Deputy Duncan and Chief Brister called a tow truck and Patrick's came and made transport for no proof of insurance and no drivers license .
Thankfully, this situation turned out to have a good ending. It's good to know that should a serious situation arise, all of our officers will have each other's back. It just goes to show the commitment they have for one another as well as for our citizens.
