$400,000 Bond Set for Christopher Stimits in Aggravated Assault Case

JASPER COUNTY, Texas — A $400,000 bond has been set for Christopher Glen Stimits following his arraignment on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, according to Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard.

Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 Judge Gina Cleveland arraigned Stimits Sunday morning and issued the substantial bond in connection to what authorities described as a recent violent assault involving his girlfriend.

Sheriff Havard said the bond amount is “significant, but necessary” to ensure Stimits’ court appearance and to protect the public.

“This bond is significant, but necessary to ensure his court appearance, protect the public from his criminal activity and his violent tendencies,” Havard stated.

According to the sheriff, Stimits is a repeat offender who has had numerous encounters with law enforcement over the years.

“Stimits is one individual who has been given chance after chance. I’m certainly glad he’s in our jail and hopefully he will remain there for a long period of time,” Havard said. “Our deputies have spent a significant amount of time dealing with him, not only in my administration, but also past administrations. He has victimized many people on numerous occasions over the years.”

Havard also expressed appreciation for Judge Cleveland and the county’s other five Justices of the Peace.

“I want to thank Judge Cleveland and our other five Justice of the Peace’s across our county for the work they are doing to protect our citizens,” Havard said. “They do an outstanding job given the guidelines and parameters they have to work with. Our office will continue to work with them and do everything we can to keep these repeat offenders in jail.”

Stimits remains in custody at the Jasper County Jail.

He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
