Buna, TX Friday night at around 8:15, a two vehicle accident claimed the lives of two people on Hwy 96, near County Road 791, South of Buna.

Texas Department of Public Safety Media Sergeant Shana Clark said, "The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 8:15 p.m., a 2023 Hyundai Elantra was traveling north, while a 2024 Kia Sportage was traveling south. It is reported that the driver of the Hyundai crossed the center median and began to travel north in the southbound lane and struck the Kia head-on."

The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced deceased on scene by a Justice of the Peace. Their information is not immediately available pending notification of their next of kin.

The driver of the Kia was transported to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries and a child passenger was pronounced deceased on scene by a Justice of the Peace. Their information is not available pending notification of their next of kin.
