JASPER COUNTY, Texas — Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated a crash involving an 18-wheeler Thursday evening that shut down a major roadway in the Mt. Union area of Jasper County for several hours.
According to DPS, the crash occurred at approximately 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026, on Farm-to-Market Road 1013 near Farm-to-Market Road 1005. A Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer hauling lumber was traveling westbound when it reportedly entered a curve at an unsafe speed and overturned.
The crash caused a large load of lumber to spill across the roadway, rendering the intersection impassable and prompting a lengthy closure while crews worked to clear debris and remove the overturned 18-wheeler.
The driver, identified as 31-year-old Carleto Allen of Houston, was transported to a Beaumont hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, DPS said.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Jasper Xxon Towing, and Tri-Community VFD fire and first responders.
Cleanup and recovery efforts extended late into the night. The roadway was finally cleared and re-opened at approximately 11:23 p.m., with Tri-Community VFD remaining on scene until that time assisting with debris removal and scene safety.
The crash remains under investigation, and no further information is available at this time, according to DPS.
