The Wall Hawks defeated the Newton Eagles in the 3A Division II State Championship game Thursday evening.

Arlington’s AT&T Stadium is the goal for every high school football program throughout the state. This was the first time the Wall Hawks have played for a State Championship in school history. This year’s team was full of seniors with a chip on their shoulders and a 15-0 season record coming into the game.

The first half was a mix of penalties and turnovers resulting in a 25-8 deficit for the Newton Eagles. By the end of the second half the Eagles turned it around and scored 16 unanswered points, bringing them within one point of the Hawks. K.J. Porter rushed for 165 yards on 33 carries and caught a 37-yard touchdown pass to rally the team.
The game ended with a failed onside kick attempt by Newton in the last minutes of the game. The Wall Hawks won 25 – 24.
