Three accidents within 10 minutes on Hwy 96, 50 yards apart yesterday

At around 3:20 pm yesterday, on Hwy 96, north of Cr 249, the second of three accidents within a 50 yard stretch happened .

The Texas Department of Public Safety Media Sergeant Shana Clark said, "The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 3:20 p.m., a 2011 Kia Sorento was traveling south. It is reported that the driver hydroplaned into the east ditch during a period of heavy rainfall".

The driver, identified as 50-year-old Maricel Betancourp of Jasper, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
