Firefighters from across East Texas will head to Jasper this winter as the Jasper County Area Fire School returns December 12–14, bringing hands-on training and advanced rescue instruction to the heart of the community.

Hosted by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) in partnership with Jasper County Emergency Services District #4, the regional training event will take place at the Jasper Fire Department, located at 205 East Water Street.

The three-day fire school offers a variety of specialized courses designed to sharpen critical skills for first responders in both urban and rural settings. From hose handling to vehicle extrication and large-scale water operations, each course delivers scenario-based instruction that mirrors real-life emergencies.

Classes begin Friday, December 12, with two evening options.

The first, Fire Hose Basics, runs from 6 to 10 p.m. and introduces participants to essential techniques such as hose inspection, maintenance, and hose roll methods.

At the same time, Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue kicks off, continuing through the weekend with 20 hours of instruction aligned with NFPA 1006 Chapter 8 standards. This course focuses on awareness, operations, and technician-level skills needed for extrication and vehicle rescue.

On Saturday and Sunday, responders can take part in the Big Water course, which focuses on rural fire tactics such as water shuttle logistics, high-volume pumping, and advanced drafting techniques. The course is ideal for departments operating in areas with limited hydrant access.

Another Saturday offering is the Emergency Services UTV/ATV Safety course, which is completely free of charge and combines classroom education with hands-on vehicle operation, teaching safe practices for off-road emergency response.

Course fees range from $100 to $450, depending on the session. All classes will be held at the Jasper Fire Department, and space is limited. QR codes for online registration are included on the official flyer, and early sign-up is encouraged.
