When looking at the weather a week or more out and especially for any significant events, it is best to not look at one model runs but to look at an ensemble of a model and models, then to look at and message in probabilities.

For early next week, probabilities are increasing for much below normal temperatures, especially from Monday January 20 to Thursday January 23. This is because the pattern is setting up that would bring arctic air down toward the Gulf coast. Therefore, the potential for the coldest temperatures so far this winter season does exist.

At this time, it is way too early to say with any certainty that winter type precipitation will occur with this cold snap, as around here you need almost perfect conditions, with moisture, lift, and depth of the cold air to all come together at the same time.

Everyone take care and stay updated on the weather situation for next week.
