Smoke & Fire Investigation Overnight in City of Newton

Newton Volunteer Fire Dept responded to a smoke and fire investigation in an area between the city park and the Gator Farm, which is at the corner of Hwy 190 & Hwy 87. around 7:40pm last night. Upon investigation, it was found to be a pile of debris had been set fire and left unattended and spread from it's original origin into the surrounding trees and grass area. Texas Forest Service responded to assist with the fire. No citation has been issued at this time due to investigation of who actually started the fire.

We will be monitoring the area throughout to the day.
