Sarah Ann Hancock Brannan - 9-29-38 to 3-6-24



Sarah Ann Hancock Brannan died peacefully at home in Jasper, Texas on March 6, 2024 at the young age of 85. Sarah Ann was born in Jasper, Texas on September 29, 1938 to Carl and Juanita Bledsoe. She grew up in Jasper and was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she played the piano. She graduated from Jasper High School, where she was head cheerleader for the Bulldog football team and a lifelong fan. She attended Newcomb College, then transferred to Southern Methodist University. In 1957, she married Robert Herman Hancock, Jr. in Jasper, Texas. They were blessed with three children: Bob, Margaret, and Ben. 


Sarah Ann loved to read, especially classic literature and American history. She gifted books to family members to share her love of reading. Each year, Sarah Ann enjoyed preparing for the celebration of Christmas. The Advent season was very meaningful to her. 

Recently, she attended Curtis Methodist Church, where her son, Pastor Ben Hancock, officiates. 


Sarah Ann had a deep love for her family and friends. Her grandchildren called her “G” and she enjoyed every story about their life adventures. Sarah Ann was a gracious hostess who loved to entertain. 


She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Donna Hancock of Richmond, Texas; daughter Margaret Haverlah and husband Steve of Llano, Texas; son Ben Hancock of Jasper, Texas; brother Carl Thomas Bledsoe, Jr. and wife JoAnn of Jasper, Texas. Also surviving her are two nephews: Thomas Bledsoe and wife Kristi; and Brent Bledsoe. Seven grandchildren: Robert Hancock, Jr.; Brian Hancock and wife Maryna; Jennifer Davis and husband Alex; Madison Hancock; Marcus Hancock; Lindsay Alexander and husband Lee; Wesley Haverlah and wife Sarah. Also surviving her are six great-grandchildren: Lillie Alexander, Alice Alexander, Amy Jane Alexander, Emily Alexander, Henry Haverlah and Yehar Gusacovski.


She was preceded in death by: her parents, Carl and Juanita Bledsoe; husband, Robert Herman Hancock, Jr.; and son, Robert Thomas Hancock, Sr. 


A Celebration of Sarah Ann Hancock Brannan’s life will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Curtis Methodist Church in Jasper, Texas. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Jasper. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00pm, Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
