JASPER, Texas - Provalus brought the heat this week during its 6th Annual Chili Cook-Off, featuring two competitions, guest judges and a tour of curent facility expansions in downtown Jasper.
This year’s event included cook-offs at the company’s Houston Street location and its Water Street site. Employees showcased a variety of recipes, with entries ranging from traditional chunky beef chili to chicken chili.
Some competitors added a creative twist. One chili was paired with fresh avocado, while another was served alongside a homemade cinnamon roll for those with a more sophisticated palate.
Guest judges included Jasper Mayor Clark McClane, City Councilmen Lequin Hildebrand and LaJuan Kyles, and Jay Sharp of the East Texas Banner.

After tasting and deliberation, Angela Allen and Melody Willingham were awarded the company’s trophy for the 2026 Chili Cook-Offs.

Prior to the competition, the Jamal Jackson and the Provalus leadership team provided the guest judges with a tour of the expansion efforts underway at the Houston Street location. The expansion aims to increase seating capacity and consolidate operations bringing all Provalus employees under one roof. Provalus is more than a place of employment, it’s a culture of intentionality toward those they employ. From a food pantry with free food for employees to the company clothing closet, Provalus sets a different bar for taking care of their employees. Along with the expansion will come a new recreational area specifically for the employees to relax.
Provalus currently employs approximately 250 people from across East Texas, putting them in the top five employers within the city limits of Jasper.
