Orangefield man fatally shot after "violent confrontation" with Deputy
In what was described as a "violent confrontation", 39-year-old Colby Granger of Orange was fatally shot Wednesday morning in an Officer involved shooting, prompting a short lockdown of Orangefield school campuses.

On Wednesday, September 4th 2024 at approximately 8:01 am, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a call to dispatch regarding a male subject, who has a history of mental health issues, making threats towards neighbors. At 8:20 am the Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on scene. The Deputy began speaking with the subject and a violent confrontation ensued. The Deputy discharged his firearm after being assaulted by the subject. The Deputy has been transported by ambulance to be treated for multiple injuries. The subject was pronounced dead at the scene. This is an ongoing investigation by the Texas Rangers. Orange County Sheriff's Office is assisting at this time.
This is the sixth fatal officer-involved shooting in Southeast Texas this year including four in Beaumont and one in Jasper.
