Marilyn was born January 15, 1944 to William Jackson "Shorty" and Nellie Mae Knighten Haynes in Carthage, Texas. She was a longtime resident of Kountze. For 25 years, she served the State of Texas in various roles, ultimately retiring as a respected corrections officer. Marilyn will always be remembered for her warmth, humor, and the many ways she poured love into the lives of those around her. She delighted in making homemade jelly, keeping the family stocked year after year—but only if we returned her jars, a rule she enforced with a smile. A skilled quilter, like her mother before her, she stitched beauty and care into every piece she created. She was also an avid thrifter, proudly showing off her latest bargain finds with the joy of someone who truly knew the thrill of the hunt. Her legacy of creativity, service, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church in Kountze.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William Jackson "Shorty" and Nellie Mae Haynes; grandson, Michael Ferguson; and siblings, Joyce Haynes, Sybal Haynes, Sydney Haynes, Charles Haynes, and Ethel Mae Singleton.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Leroy Anderson, Sr. of Kountze; sons, Leroy “Billy” Anderson, Jr. and wife Kristan of Kountze, Kenneth Anderson and wife Dana of Fairfield, and Keith Anderson and wife Teresa from Huntsville; daughters, Trina Atkinson and husband Rodney of Royse City, Danita Ferguson of Lumberton, and Amber Anderson and husband Seth Avila of Idaho Springs, CO; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas.
