Obituary of Shirley Poindexter

October 31, 1943 - July 1, 2025

Shirley Christine Lewis Poindexter, 81, of Lufkin, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial Hospital in Lufkin, Texas.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Sunday, July 6, 2025 at Egypt Cemetery in Colmesneil. Officiating will be Ray Funderburk.

Shirley was born October 31, 1943 to Robert and Minnie McGee Lewis in Merryville, Louisiana. She was a member of LifePoint Church, formerly Calvary Baptist Church in Lufkin. Her career was in various secretarial positions with churches and Lufkin Memorial Hospital for many years. She graduated from Chenier Business College in Beaumont, Texas in 1963. She also graduated from Angelina College and attended SFA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Minnie Lewis; husband of 54 years, Charles Poindexter; sisters, Ether Mae (Dyes) O’Quain, and Barbara Lewis; brothers, Robert Earl Lewis, and Henry Lewis; nephews, James “Bo” Dyes, Ken Lewis, and Michael Lewis.

She is survived by nieces, Margaret (Donnie) Mitchell, Diane, Rene, and Lisa; nephew, Ed (Frances) Lewis, and other relatives and friends.
