Myra was born on March 30, 1935 in Port Arthur, Texas to Esca Dearwood “Suggs” and Edna Katherine Panciera Collier in Port Arthur, Texas. She grew up as a little country girl on Pope Mill Rd. believing she was related to the whole world, because literally at that time, everyone on Pope Mill Rd was related to her. She attended grade school in the one room school house in Hillister, Texas and later went on to Woodville to attend and graduate from Kirby High School. She married the love of her life, L.D. “Jack” Griffin on January 17, 1953 and they began their love story of traveling the world with his work. She would often say that they lived from border-to-border coast-to-coast and around the world until there wasn’t no more.

Myra owned and operated “Myra’s”, for over 40 years. It was a skin care salon that provided services of manicures, pedicures, facials, clothing and jewelry. She definitely had the gift of style and immensely enjoyed pampering her customers. Some would even go as far as saying that her kindness and her listening ear to the woes of their lives would always bring her around to encouraging them to follow The Lord in His word. She said, “there’s more than facials and nails going on down here”. Myra also instilled not only to her customers, but to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren the appreciation of all God’s beauty surrounding them, be it birds, fall leaves, a sunrise, sunset, cloud formations, twinkling stars in the night sky or a beautiful tree. She was an avid daily walker, walking 2 miles every day for over 50 years. Many folks knew her by her orange décor, her all-time favorite color.

Myra was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be missed by many. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Woodville until her declining health and she loved the Lord with all of her heart, mind, and soul.

She was preceded in death by her parents, E.D. “Suggs” and Edna Collier; husband of 68 years, L.D. “Jack” Griffin; brother and sister-in-law, Malcolm and Carolyn Collier.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, son, Ky D. Griffin and wife Rhonda of Jasper; daughter, Leeza Blanchette and husband Jacques of Woodville; sister, Julietta Collier Sheffield of Houston; grandchildren: Blake Blanchette and wife Helen, Megan Parmer and husband Randy, Brent Blanchette, Blaire Rogers and husband Dwight, Collier Griffin; great grandchildren: Caroline Blanchette, Libby Blanchette, Sutton Rogers, Ellie Blanchette, Emerson Parmer, Quint Rogers, Griffin Rogers, Elliot Parmer, and Wynn Rogers; and numerous other family and friends.

A special thanks to her loving caregivers, Debbie and Guy King, and Ceola Harris.

Of Myra it can truly be said, “Blessed are we who have had her in our life.”

Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas.
