Obituary of Melba Jean Brown-Adams

September 18, 1939 - April 16, 2025


A Celebration of Melba Jean Brown-Adams’ Life, age 85, of Newton, Texas, will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Holly Springs Baptist Church in the Holly Springs Community of Jasper, Texas. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Church.


Melba passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Shady Acres Nursing Home in Newton, Texas.


A native of White City in San Augustine County, Texas, and former resident of Dickinson, Texas, Melba has been a resident of Holly Springs for the past 30 years. She enjoyed reading and was very active in her church work. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.


Melba is survived by her sons, Herbert Harlan Adams, Jr. and Richard Coley Adams and wife Mary all of Dickinson, Texas; daughters, Lisa Diane Adams and Gina Butler and husband Tom all of Dickinson, Texas; brother, Kenneth Raywood Brown of Branson, Missouri; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Myrtie Brown; husband, Herbert Harlan Adams, Sr.; brother, Roy Vernon Brown; sister, Darlene Brown Coker; daughter-in-law, Linda Adams and grandson, Zachary Adams.


Memorials may be made to Holly Springs Baptist Church, 7396 US Hwy 190 East, Jasper, Texas 75951.


Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.
