Hubert W. Unsworth, 76, of Woodville, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2025 in Woodville, Texas.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with military honors graveside in Rockland Cemetery in Rockland, Texas. Officiating will be Brother Tony Moye. Serving as pallbearers will be Isaac Unsworth, Phillip McDaniel, Layton Price, Justin Stewart, Brazos Morris, and Johnny Barton. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Rose and Steve Benthall.
Hubert was born November 21, 1948 to Hubert and Faye Eudine Cook Unsworth in Liberty County, Texas. He was a longtime resident of Tyler County and had attended the old Kirby High School in Woodville. He was Honorable Discharged as a U.S. Marine Corporal after serving in Vietnam having received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 star, Combat Action Ribbon, and the RVN Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Frame. Over the course of his life, he enjoyed several jobs, but fulfilled his childhood dream of being a truck driver. He served as a Master Mason for 50 years being a member of Magnolia Lodge #495 in Woodville at the time of his death. He loved to trout line fish as well as bass and catfish. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was a Deacon for over 50 years. He greatly loved being the best “Poppie” ever to his grandgirls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Faye Unsworth; brother Kenneth Unsworth; and sister, Brenda Stanley.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Hensarling Unsworth of Woodville; daughter, Wendy McDaniel and husband Phillip of LaRue; son, Isaac Unsworth and wife Rachel of Palm Springs, Ca; daughter from other parents, Sharona Morris Unsworth of Woodville; grandchildren, Chloe Unsworth, Callie Unsworth, and Chelsea Unsworth; and a great granddaughter on the way.
