Obituary of Gwen Sterling

March 12, 1932 - May 4, 2025

Gwen Sterling, 93, of Woodville, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2025 at The Orchard Assisted Living Center in Woodville, Texas.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville. Officiating will be Brother Milton Powers.

Gwen was born March 12, 1932 to John David and Janet Gwendolynn Kyle Slaybaugh in Port Arthur, Texas. A longtime resident of Tyler County, she was a retired lab tech from Tyler County Hospital. She enjoyed gardening and painting. Gwen volunteered with the local cat shelter as animals were a passion of her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Janet Slaybaugh.

She is survived by her sons, Kyle Sterling of Corrigan and David Sterling and wife Carol of Katy; daughters, Dr. Kellie Smith and husband Jay of Chireno and Paula Standley and husband George of Colmesneil; former daughter-in-law, Elisa Baker of Barnum; grandchildren, Jessie Clarke and husband Jay, Tracy Steinhiser and husband Jim, Chris Sterling, Kevin Sterling and wife Michal, Kara Davis and fiancé Austin Phillips, Makeala Smith, and Meg Standley.

Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas.
