Newton VFD dealt with two fires Sunday from electric lines

Newton Volunteer Fire Department responded to two fires Sunday, on FM 1414, approximately 1 mi apart. Newton VFD Captain Melanie Smith said that both fires were caused by electrical lines that had fallen.

Approximate 3 acres were burned.

The Texas Forest Service responded to the second call in that area.

Smith added, "Though we're not under a burn ban, it is encouraged to use caution when burning due to low humidity and dry conditions."
