Calls To Services (August 7, 2023, to August 13, 2023): The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) answered 62 calls to service.

Jail Transports:

NCSO made 3 transports. 1 transport from NCSO to JCSO, 1 transport from JCSO to NCSO, and 1 transport from NCSO to Beaumont Baptist.

Jail Population: We currently have 26 inmates in the following Jails, 14 housed in Newton, 9 housed in Jasper, and 3 housed in Hardin County.

NEWTON COUNTY BURN BAN: The Burn Ban is still in effect. No burning, No exceptions!

PRESS RELEASE - Search Warrant- The Former Exotic Cat Refuge, 254 Private Road 7025

On August 9, 2023, Newton County Sheriff’s Office, DPS Narcotics Agents, Texas Highway Patrol, Air Support from Beaumont PD and FBI Agents from the Houston Field Office served a Search Warrant at the Exotic Cat Refuge to seize a stolen vehicle.

The stolen vehicle is one Ford Mustang blue in color. Law Enforcement personnel executed the search warrant at the above location about 1300 hours on August 9th. The vehicle had been removed from the property and the suspect was not home. There were two firearms and a controlled substance found on the premises. Additional charges are forthcoming, and the suspect is not currently in custody.

I want to thank all the Deputies, Agents, and Officers and the above listed agencies for their cooperation and assistance in the safe execution in this operation.

The following calls and reports were received by NCSO:

Call: Criminal Mischief, Officer Assist

Deweyville: Officer Assist x 3, Theft x 2, Follow-Up/Case Inquiry, Theft of Firearm, Welfare Concern, Fire initially reported the fire started by a cigarette. We investigated and issued a burn ban citation, Fire, received several calls throughout the night in reference to hotspots from the fire on Hwy 12. Deweyville fire responded to the first call but stated that it was just a stump inside the Fire Break. We checked the area several times and observed small flames that would die out after a few minutes.

Bon Wier: Welfare Concern x 2, Blackmail Extortion or Kidnapping, Fire-Burn Ban Violation citation issued, Officer Assist x 2, Fire started by a downed powerline.

Wiergate: Disturbance, Fraud, Officer Assist

Toledo Bend: Officer Assist, Fire started by a down powerline.

Old Champion: Theft, Officer Assist

Liberty: Alarm, Officer Assist

Shankleville: Trespassing

Mayflower: Burglary x 2, Theft

Old Salem: Disturbance x 2, U.S. Mail Violations

Trout Creek: Suspicious Activity x 2, Welfare Concern

Pine Grove: Traffic Hazard, Civil Matter, Officer Assist

Devils’ Pocket: Fire-Burn Ban Citation Issued by Forestry

Hartburg: Smoke- we investigated and found it was smoke that was coming from out of county.
